On October 21, 2019, delegates from Türkiye Petrol Rafinerileri A.Ş. (Tüpraş) visited Petrotech in New Orleans to learn more about investment opportunities in the oil and gas industry. The meeting was planned as part of a reverse trade mission hosted by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), which lasted 10 business days and included stops at companies in San Antonio, Houston, New Orleans, and Chicago.
Tüpraş is Turkey’s largest oil refiner. It controls all refining capacities in the country and owns nearly 60% of Turkey’s available petroleum products storage capacity. Tüpraş plans to invest $4 billion to modernize its equipment and processes while making the technological advancements needed to increase efficiency at its four existing facilities. Company leaders have also expressed interest in developing additional refineries in the future.
Reverse trade missions are international business meetings that allow foreign representatives to observe procedures by which goods and services in the U.S. are developed, produced, and operated. In doing so, participants have the chance to form business relationships that can assist both parties in acquiring market expertise and increasing revenue.
